How Mailchimp sees your stores

Why the same customer can show different numbers in two places in Mailchimp, and why both are right.

Run more than one store? You might notice the same customer showing different order counts or spend in two places in Mailchimp. That’s expected: Mailchimp keeps data at two levels, and both views are correct.

Two levels, by design

Each store view you connect becomes its own Mailchimp store, with its own per-store customer records. On top of that sits a single audience contact per email address that adds up everything that person has done across all your stores.

The two levels

  • Per store: inside each Mailchimp store, only the orders, customers and products from that one store.
  • The audience contact: one record per email, with totals like spend and order count rolled up across every store connected to that audience. If you run separate audiences, each keeps its own contacts and its own totals.

It is the same division you have already met: Mailchimp stores hold the rebuildable shopping data; the audience holds the people.

So a customer who shopped in two of your stores has two per-store records but one audience contact that combines both. Both numbers are right; they just answer different questions.

What it means for your campaigns

Segments and automations read the audience contact, the combined, cross-store view. So a segment like “spent over $1,000” uses the customer’s total across all the stores sharing that audience, which is usually exactly what you want.

Built for the complex setup

Magento is where complex commerce lives: several brands, regions, currencies and consent rules under one roof. The extension is designed for exactly that. Every store view gets its own connection, and every combination works: one Mailchimp account serving many stores, separate Mailchimp accounts per brand or region, shared audiences or independent ones, in any mix. Each connection carries its own settings, its own audience choice and its own consent rules, so a business that spans countries and legislations maps naturally, store view by store view.

The independence is real, not cosmetic. Each store syncs on its own lanes, with its own pacing and its own connection to Mailchimp, so a busy launch in one brand never slows the others. However your business is shaped, the connection map follows it.

Whether the stores share one audience or keep their own is your call per store view; Choose your audience covers the trade-off, and Mailchimp’s guide to audiences goes deeper on the concept.
